Community
Kaipara Kūmara values the huge support that the local community has given the business over the years. Kaipara Kūmara would not be where it is today if it was not for that support - especially through the hundreds of people who have been employed at different times over the 54 years plus journey. They have all contributed and our staff with us here today and tomorrow will continue that journey.
In turn, since its inception in 1970, Kaipara Kūmara has been a key supporter of the local community. While the mushroom side of the business is long gone, it's no surprise that the first box of mushrooms ever produced in late 1970 was given to the Ruawai Volunteer Fire Brigade to auction off at a fundraiser event. That type of support for the brigade continues along with many others in the community - Ruawai College, Ruawai Primary School, Ruawai Kindergarten, Ruawai Boating Club, Ruawai Bowling Club, Ruawai Rugby, Ruawai Jetz Netball and other local groups, clubs and organisations. Kaipara Kūmara has also been a long time supporter of the Northern Rescue Helicopter service based in Whangārei.
Kaipara Kūmara aligns itself with the local Naumai Marae and continues to share a very close relationship with them including local iwi of Te Uri o Hau. Kaipara Kūmara is very fortunate to be able to call Naumai Marae..."Our Marae." The team at Kaipara Kūmara appreciate the guidance, love and support relating to cultural matters
