Kool Kumara Kids Cooking Tips
Prick the skin and bake at 200°C for 40 to 50 minutes (or until tender).
Bring 4cm of water to a boil in a steamer. Place whole, unpeeled kumara in a steam basket and steam until tender (40 to 50 minutes for an medium size kumara).
Place whole kumara in boiling water and cook 35 to 45 minutes, depending on size.
Microwave It! Prick the skin and microwave on high power (4 to 6 minutes for a medium size kumara).
Peel and cut kumara into lengthwise strips about 1cm thick. Add to oil that is 180°C (hotter oil will ruin it). Fry until brown and tender. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
Kumara sticks - peel and cut into sticks and dip into your favourite dip.
Try these great toppings for your kumara: salsa and crumbled corn chips; cinnamon flavoured apple sauce; vanilla flavoured yogurt and cinnamon sugar; warm nacho cheese topping.
